Down we go...

JEE preparations were in full swing. I was doing coaching work, my own practice, trying to stay ahead of the batch, reading toppers blog, sleeping properly, had a positive attitude, my parents were very supportive and was confident of myself. IIT Bombay Computer Science Engineering (CSE) was set to be the next stop. Why IIT-Bombay CSE?  Well it was the preferred choice of all the toppers, the best of the best studied there. Going to IIT-Bombay meant huge respect in the society. Also I wanted to show everyone what I was capable of. I wanted revenge over the crooks of my coaching management. It was my reply to every insult me and my family has ever endured. Graduating from IIT-Bombay and working in an Investment bank/ trading firm will bring me a lot of money and will make all those luxuries possible that my parents have only dream of. The entrepreneurship environment of IIT-Bombay was top notch, the big pool of talent at IIT-B CSE was perfect for any sort of career growth. Best part...

The Coaching Experience

Overall the coaching experience taught me many things.  1. Life is unfair, get used to it.   When I started with my preparation I found I was up against people who have covered a significant part of the syllabus back in 10th standard, people who have started their preparation back in 6th standard, NTSE scholars, KVPY scholars, international olympiad medalists. And then there was me starting everything from scratch. I used to waste a lot of time thinking how the competition was unfair, how the institute was unfair to me, how unfair it was for me to be sick during my preparations. It did not change the fact that if I want to get into an IIT getting the best possible rank was my only option, irrespective of everything. There will always be someone who will have an edge, or some situation in which you will have to compete irrespective of all odds being against you. This doesn't mean that you will give up but ranting about it will not going to help. In such cases when you cann...

Its all about business....

So, 10th grade was over, and now I had this big challenge in front of me, not JEE preps but preps to get in a coaching institute. I was already enrolled in an institute for board exams prepration with a nice PR or repute for preparing toppers in JEE, and I wanted to continue in it. But the fee was huge, so I decided to appear in the admission test which also guaranteed nice scholarship as per rank.  Exam day, I was probably more nervous than the actual JEE advanced exam. Not because I wasn't prepared but because my father was already under the burden of a loan and I had seen a few things about the institute and did not want him to pay the total fee. There was no pressure from his side to get a scholarship he was okay with the amount, that place simply wasn't worth that price. For me getting a good rank was important. The exam started, and I saw the true seriousness, cheating left and right no one really cared how it goes as if it were a formality. The results day I saw I had so...

Few pages from the past

Growing up... I was blessed with a stable family. My father is an employee of SBI. A man of principles who has survived tonnes of hardships. Forever busy chasing perfection, surviving office politics, and stuck in his worries for my grandparent's health, often he was not there for me when I needed him, tough from outside and soft from inside, he has his own ways of loving me and my mom. Took me a long time, to be honest, more than a decade to realize that whatever he does has only one purpose, adding to my comforts. My mother is a very kind woman who knows the value of education and has ensured to put me on the right path despite my father's absence. I was taught to stay ahead of the competition from a very young age. My mother tutored me, and I was clear with the four fundamental operations of mathematics,  tables till 20, and basic paragraph writing in Hindi and English before I entered the first standard. When my father got transferred, we moved to Jabalpur, the city closest...

Blog 0 an introduction.

Hey there! Welcome to my blog. I am Shashank and via this blog, I would like to talk about my life, the mistakes I have made, and how they have changed me. Currently, I am a sophomore at IISER Bhopal, and so far getting admission into this college has been my greatest achievement. Apart from my mistakes and the lessons that they have taught me I don't have much to share but even if one person gets to learn from my journey and things that I am involved with, then the purpose of this blog is served. I will also try to give you an insight into academia, the IISER life, and how it is not limited to a career in research.  Like many, I could never make it to the prestigious IIT and here I would try my level best to prove that it is absolutely okay not to. With this, I would like to thank you for reading so much. Please visit again for the next post. Kindly share, Bye.
